Florida eyes 2015 tight end

The Gators picked up a 2014 tight end on Thursday night but the coaching staff is already looking ahead to 2015.

On Thursday the coaching staff visited 2015 Orlando (Fla.) First Academy tight end Garrett Williams.

“Coach (Derek) Lewis came by to see me,” Williams said. “This was his second time coming by, he came by a few weeks ago also. It was awesome to see him because he is a great guy and I enjoy seeing him around. I’m very high on Florida because they have a good program.”

The 6-foot-4, 221-pound Williams has yet to receive a Florida offer yet but that could chance next week.

“I plan to visit Florida next Wednesday because we are out of school,” Williams said. “Coach Lewis tells me that he wants me to meet coach (Will) Muschamp and that if they offer me, he wants it come from coach Muschamp in person. So I’m looking forward to visiting Florida and seeing everything in person and meeting everyone. I haven’t been to Florida as an athlete yet, I’ve just been there as a fan.”

Despite Florida not offering Williams yet, he says that he doesn’t hold that against the Gators at all.

“It’s early in the process so it’s no rush,” Williams said. “I would love to have an offer from them but I understand. Coach Lewis has been telling me that they are trying to figure where I would fit best at Florida. He said that right now they aren’t sure whether I would be better at tight end or at defensive end/outside linebacker.  Coach Lewis says he hopes its at tight end because he would love to coach me.”

Next week won’t be the only visit for Williams to Florida, as he also plans to visit Gainesville for a camp this summer either in June or for Friday Night Lights in July.
