Dean has a special connection to the Florida Gators

Two weekends ago Gainesville was filled with several prospects from the state of Georgia who visited the Florida Gators on their way to a 7-on-7 tournament in Orlando.

Safety Trey Dean (6-2, 180, Hampton, GA. Dutchtown) was one of those guys in town and he had a chance to catch up with everyone.

“It went good,” Dean said of his visit to Florida two weeks ago. “I was able to meet the new defensive backs coach and was able to talk with the other coaches. We got to see the campus and the facilities they’re building. I like what they’re trying to do.”

This was the first time for Dean to met new defensive backs coach Corey Bell and the two hit it off quickly and the safety shared his impressions of Bell.

“He’s a real laid-back guy,” he said of his first impression of Bell. “ A real family guy. He wants to win and he wants to be great. He’s just trying to fit in with those guys and get things going. He wants to win and be great.”

Bell made sure to explain to Dean how much the Gators want him and what they like about the safety from Georgia.

“He told me that he wants me to represent the University of Florida,” Dean said of what Bell told him. “He said that I would be a great fit for them at safety and that he liked my style of play. He likes my length and athleticism.

Defensive line coach Chris Rumph has been one of the main recruiters for Dean and the two got the chance to talk again two weekends ago.

“I got to talk to the defensive line coach [Chris Rumph],” he said of whom else he talked too. “He’s a great guy and he was happy that I came back down for a visit. He wants me to come play for them.”

Dean has a special connection to Florida as his cousin Ahmad Black is a former Gators safety and Black is always talking up Florida.

“He’s telling people I’ve committed already,” Dean said of what Black says. “He talks to me a lot about Florida. He just says it’s a great place and has great people and is just great all around. He said you will fall in love with Florida.”

The connection to Florida is something that has Dean’s attention but the Gators history with defensive backs is something else that draws the safety back to Gainesville.

“Florida is just DBU and they produce defensive backs every year,” he said on why he has high interest in Florida. “I play defensive back so it’s just a great fit for me and somewhere that I’m very interested in.”

Dean has started to pick up a lot of interest as of late and he says that a few schools are talking to him more than others.

“No sir,” Dean said when asked if he has a leader. “I’m taking it slow and probably make my commitment in the summer. I’m definitely high on Florida and I’m interested in Georgia, Alabama, UCLA, Oregon, Notre Dame, FSU, Duke, and a few others.”

INSIDERS TAKE: Dean has always been high on Florida and he says he plans to visit Gainesville again before he makes his decision this summer. Georgia is also making a strong push for the instate safety.
