Craig Drummond wants to hear from UF

Craig Drummond has been hearing from a lot of schools lately and with his combination of size and speed, it’s no secret why. At 6-4, 252 pounds, the defensive end from Morgan Park High School in Chicago has the size to go with 4.5 speed in the 40 and that has college coaches drooling.

“I’m hearing from a lot of schools and I have tons of offers,” Drummond said.

According to Drummond his list of schools that have already offered him includes Illinois, Miami, Iowa, Ohio State and Alabama. But, even with all the attention from schools, there is one school that he wishes would pay a little bit more attention to him.

“Florida sends me mail, but none of the coaches have come up yet,” he said. “I want to hear more from the Florida coaches.”

Drummond wouldn’t name the Gators or any other school as his favorite, however. He says he is so wide open that he’s not ready to name a top five yet.

“All the schools are pretty much equal to me,” said Drummond, who had 67 tackles, 18 sacks, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery for a touchdown last season.

The school that has been contacting Drummond the most has been Illinois. However, Coach Ron Zook’s main selling point doesn’t have as a big of an effect on Drummond as he would have hoped.

“I hear from Illinois a lot and they have been talking to me about staying close to home,” Drummond said. “But staying close to home isn’t really important to me.”

What is important to Drummond is finding a school that excels in several different areas.

“I want a school that has a great defense and great coaches,” he said. “Some place that is just a great school in general.”

Drummond said he grew up cheering for the Miami Hurricanes, but that will not be a factor when he makes his decision. As far as timetable for making his decision, Drummond has a date in mind.

“I plan on making my decision right after the last game of my senior year,” he said.

Drummond, who expects to play defensive end in college, is working hard on improving his speed and strength.

“I want to get my 40-time down from 4.5 to 4.4,” he said. “Also, right now I bench press 250 pounds and I want to get that up to 305 pounds or so.”

It will be interesting to see if the Gators fulfill Drummond’s wishes and contact him more often. He certainly has interest in Florida and appears to be talented enough to be a Gator. With his junior year stats as a barometer, it only figures that Florida will take a long, serious look
