Callahan wants another Wilson in the Swamp at CB

The Florida Gators recruiting efforts are being aided in large part to their 5-0 start but the momentum being built is not only affecting the class of 2016 but the 2017 recruiting class as well.
One of those prospects that Florida is recruiting hard is 2017 cornerback Marco Wilson (5-11, 163, Plantation, FL American Heritage) and last week he was on the Florida Gators recruiting visitor’s list for the Ole Miss game and he liked what he saw from the Gators.

“This atmosphere is at the top for me,” Wilson said. “I’ve never been around an atmosphere like this before. It would be amazing to play in front of that kind of crowd. I’ve pictured myself playing in that atmosphere some.”

Wilson, whose older brother is Quincy Wilson, has been around Florida a lot and he admits that he talks to Jim McElwain and other coaches a lot as well.

“The coaches are telling me that they want me here at Florida,” Wilson said. “They are telling me to take care of my leg and stuff like that. I talk to Coach [Kirk] Callahan the most and Coach McElwain some. I talk to Coach Callahan every week.”

Since Wilson has family ties to Florida the Gators will always be a team talked about, but the younger Wilson says that he’s open to everyone.

“I consider other schools but I consider Florida a lot in recruiting,” he said. “I don’t have a leader right now in my recruitment. Ohio State, Miami, Alabama and a few other schools are recruiting me still.”

The Florida Gators recruiting message has been that Wilson can be the next great Gators cornerback and that’s something Wilson is looking at.

“I know a lot about the school and my brother is here,” Wilson said on the draw to Florida. “They just tell me that Florida is special for DB’s and how they run everything on defense. They said that a freshman could come in get a lot of playing time.”

Not only does Wilson like the coaches and campus but also likes how honest the Florida Gators coaches are in their recruiting message.

“I notice that Florida is playing a lot of freshman and that’s a big influence,” he said. “I know in the recruiting process that some coaches will just say things so I just want to make sure schools are actually doing what they say when I make my choice.”

INSIDERS TAKE: Florida is the team to beat for Wilson but he will look at all options before making a decision. Wilson and his family are going to make the best decision for him at the end of the day.
