Barrett shocked by his Florida offer

The Florida Gators are doing a great job of getting early offers out to 2017 prospects this spring and that is mainly true for prospects in the state of Florida.

Defensive line coach Chris Rumph has taken charge of the Tampa area and he gave an offer to another 2017 prospect two weeks ago when he offered athlete Devan Barrett (6-1, 195, Tampa, FL Catholic) after watching his practice.

“Coach Rumph from Florida offered me,” Barrett said. “It was two weeks ago that they offered me. I called him one night and he was telling me that he likes my game and that I can play both sides of the ball. He said that the offensive and defensive coaches like me.”

Growing up in Tampa the 2017 athlete has watched Florida on TV many of times, thinking that he wanted an offer from the Florida Gators. He was shocked to hear the news two weeks ago.

“It was a big offer to get,” Barrett said. “I was very surprised when my coach told me about the offer and told me to call coach Rumph. When I was talking to him and he told me about the offer I was just amazed and excited to hear that.”

Like a lot of prospects that Florida has been offering, Barrett is a guy that can play multiple positions and Rumph made sure to explain to Barrett that he was a wanted man at Florida.

“Coach Rumph said that I can play both sides of the ball at Florida,” Barrett said. “He said that they like me at DB and at running back. He just told me that if I ever commit to them that they will figure it out once I get up there.”

With double digit offers already Barrett is planning to get out to see some schools this summer including his childhood favorite Florida.

“Just growing up Florida was my favorite school with Oregon,” Barrett said. “I just always liked them. Now that I have an offer I’m going to get up there for a visit. I told coach Rumph that I was going to come up this summer to check out the campus and the facilities.”

INSIDERS TAKE: Barrett is pretty open in his recruitment but Florida is a school that has his attention early on. Defensive line coach Chris Rumph has done a good job of getting the Florida brand noticed in Tampa this spring as well.
