A.J. Jenkins to announce today

Jacksonville Terry Parker wide receiver A.J. Jenkins is probably the smoothest receiver in the class of 2008. “King Smooth” will make his college decision public Monday after contacting the coaches of the University of Florida and Georgia Tech, his final two schools.

Jenkins’ decision comes a little more than a week on the heels of his attendance at Friday Night Lights, a camp at the University of Florida where he earned a written scholarship offer after competing against some of the best in the country.  Jenkins received the offer by mail on Tuesday.

“The letter said I have a full scholarship to the University of Florida for the class of 2008,” he said.

A few weeks go, early reports surfaced that Jenkins had all but committed to the Georgia Tech Jackets, but he denied the reports. However, he is ready to move on with his senior season and end the recruiting process.

“[Today] I am going to make my decision public,” he said. “My parents are going to call both colleges and then I will make it public.

The selection is already made, according to Jenkins. He and his family sat down and talked about it and came to a mutual decision. He says he made the decision based on two factors: “Playing time and location.” Both seem to favor Florida as Gainesville is just 75 miles from his current home and the depth chart has fewer receivers than that of the Yellow Jackets.

Stay tuned to Gator Country and we’ll know for sure later today where A.J. ends up.
