After leaving Friday Night Lights, St. Thomas Aquinas wide receiver and 2014 prospect Corey Holmes came away impressed with the entire experience in his first visit to Florida.
“Oh it was a great experience,” Holmes said. “It was my first time ever being in Gainesville and let alone ever being in the Swamp. I had been looking forward to the camp all month and was also looking forward to facing all the good competition.”
Holmes, who stands at 6-foot-1, 175-pounds and runs a 4.41 in the 40-yard dash, even was able to spend some one-on-one time with Gators receivers coach Aubrey Hill inside his office during the one-day Florida football camp.
“I was able to speak with coach Hill throughout the whole camp,” Holmes said. “I was able to hang out in his office for a few and he just told me a couple times that he would for sure come back down to my school and come see me.”
“During the camp he told me I was doing really good. He told me that my route running was good and he liked what I did in one-on-ones,” Holmes added.
Overall, Holmes came away “very impressed” with Florida.
“I thought the school was very cool. All of the facilities were all very nice,” Holmes said. “The Swamp was just awesome. I had always wanted to see the Swamp and to be able in it. It was thrilling.”
Although Holmes grew up a fan of Michigan and has a scholarship offer from the Wolverines, he said that he no favorites at this time.
“I’m just trying to keep it open,” he said.
Holmes would like to make a return trip to Gainesville. However, he is unsure of when that’ll be since he has nothing planned at the moment.
He has received offers from Florida, Michigan, Florida St., and Wisconsin, among others.
