Despite being a year away from his signing day, the recruitment of 2013 tight end Adam Breneman (Camp Hill, Pa./Cedar Cliff) is heating up.
On Saturday, Tennessee was the latest school to offer a scholarship to the first team 4A All-State tight end. The Vols make it 22 scholarship offers for Breneman, whose offer sheet includes Ohio State, Alabama, Florida State, Michigan and Notre Dame.
Breneman checked out numerous schools throughout his junior season, but he is not close to claiming any leaders.
“Obviously I’ve started to form some opinions in my head,” said Adam Breneman, “but nothing that’s overwhelming. I really have no favorites. I’m completely wide open.”
Although they have not offered, Breneman said he has had contact with the Florida Gators’ coaching staff. Because he’s a junior, college coaches are not allowed to phone him on a weekly basis, but there are other ways to connect.
“I’ve had minimal contact with Florida,” Breneman said. “I talked to Coach [Derek] Lewis on the phone a few months ago. They contact me on Facebook every now and then and email me, but that’s it.”
Florida currently has verbal commitments from 2012 tight ends Kent Taylor and Colin Thompson, but Breneman isn’t letting it affect his opinion on the Gators.
“Since they got two tight ends in this class I’m not sure if they are going to offer me,” he added, “But it would be great if they did.”
The 6-foot-5, 220-pound tight end said offensive schemes would be a major factor in his decision.
“I want to be able to be a dynamic playmaker and be a big receiving threat,” he said. “It’s more about how I’ll be used and how the schools are saying they will use me.”
Breneman showed why he would be a big receiving threat as he finished his junior season with 72 receptions for 1,120 yards and 12 touchdowns.
Even though his high school team did not reach the state title game, Breneman’s year ended on a high note when he accepted an invite to play in the 2013 Under Armour All-American Game.
“It was great because I was also invited to the U.S. Army All-American Bowl,” Breneman said, “But I’m really excited about the Under Armour game. It has a great location in Orlando and Tampa, and it will be a great opportunity to matchup against some of the best players in the country.”
Up next for Breneman will be unofficial visits to Ohio State, North Carolina and Miami over the next few months.
