Photo Gallery: Men’s hoops vs. Saint Leo

The University of Florida men’s basketball team defeated Saint Leo, 95-46, in their first exhibition game of the 2009-10 season Monday night at the Stephen C. O’Connell Center.

A total of four Gators scored in double figures and all 10 players that entered the game scored. Freshman guard Kenny Boynton scored the first five points of the game and led all scorers with 22 points in his first game for the Orange and Blue. He finished 5-for-9 from beyond the three-point arc and also had six rebounds and three steals.

Sophomore Erving Walker scored 16 points for Florida and added nine assists. Sophomore Ray Shipman chipped in 10 points and junior Alex Tyus had 10 points and a team-leading nine rebounds.

The freshmen and sophomores accounted for 66 of the team’s 95 points. Freshman Erik Murphy scored nine points and had six rebounds while sophomore Kenny Kadji added six points and freshman Rod Tishman had three points.

The Gators led by 31 at the half after shooting 60.0 percent from the floor (18-for-30), including 93.8 percent from the free-throw line (15-for-16). UF finished the game at 53.0 percent shooting and out-rebounded the Lions 51-38.

Florida held Saint Leo to 22.7 percent shooting (15-for-66), including suffocating defense from beyond the arc allowing only 1-for-21 (4.8 percent).
