Guy Jr talks recruiting and the Florida Gators

Bruce Guy Jr has had an eventful spring. Between playing with two AAU programs and deciding to transfer to a new school, it’s safe to say Guy has been busy. GatorCountry.com caught up with the 2019 wing to talk about recruiting and the Florida Gators.

Guy is an athletic wing who is tough and can finish in traffic. He plays with a high motor and his length is extremely effective on the defensive end.

“I like to push the ball up the court and set others up to make plays,” Guy said. “I also look to attack the basket and find gaps in the defense to attack and knock down easy mid-range looks. Every day I go in the gym and I work on ball handling, midrange and three pointers. The main thing I work on is consistently hitting midrange and three pointers off the dribble and catch and shoot situations.”

Guy has been splitting time playing with Team Loaded(VA) and Team Penny. He has been a versatile asset to both programs.

“AAU season has been good for me,” he said. “I play with Team loaded Virginia 16u and I just started playing for Team Penny 16u . Team loaded VA 16u and Team Penny 16u are really good teams and it’s been a solid experience. I have played well for both teams locking up on defense and also scoring wise.”

Last season Guy played for Houston high but has decided that a school change would be the best choice for him. This coming season Guy will play for Tennessee Prep Academy.

“My main upcoming goal for the HS season is to win,” Guy said. “I hate to lose and I love winning more than anything. If we win then everything else will fall in line as far as individual things go.”

One of the teams that have been showing interest in Guy is the Florida Gators. Guy is friends with current Gators guard Chris Chiozza and loves the Florida basketball tradition.

“I think the Florida gators are a really good team,” he said. “They have a great basketball tradition. I’m cool with Chris Chiozza and Coach [Jordan] Mincy. He has interest in me but hasn’t offered me yet. Last time I talked to him he said I can be really special and that he’ll keep an eye on me to see my progress.”

Guy holds offers from five schools and is also receiving interest from several others.

“Right now I have offers from Virginia Tech, MTSU, SMU, Tulsa and Morehead State,” Guy said. “I have interest from Ole Miss, Florida, UMass, Xavier, Murray State, and Memphis. I’ve gone on unofficial visits to VCU, Virginia Tech, and Ole Miss.”
