Florida Gators In The NBA: Young Goes To Europe

Former Florida Gators center Patric Young’s NBA career has taken a hiatus, as the New Orleans Pelicans waived the rookie. Young had signed a two-year contract with the team, but the roster moved was believed to be done in part to make way for Dante Cunningham. Young got back on his feet shortly, signing with the Galatasaray S.K. of the Turkish Basketball League. Young will play for six months with the team.

Florida Gators head coach Billy Donovan spoke about Young’s signing Wednesday:

“I just heard that. Pat’s a great kid. I still believe he has a career and future in the NBA. I think any team would be crazy not to take him. I’ve said this before. I’ve coached a lot of NBA guys and guys that are doing very well up there. He’s as good of a defensive center, frontcourt player that I’ve ever coached. He can bring value to Istanbul and to a team in the NBA. I think as long as he wants to play, he can have a very long career.”

According to the Associated Press’ Brian Mahoney, Cleveland Cavaliers forward Mike Miller will remain in New York after leaving the game against the New York Knicks with concussion-like symptoms. There is no word yet as to what his status will be going forward.
