Florida Gators basketball look to rebound at Georgia Bulldogs

The Florida Gators  basketball team (16-9, 7-5 SEC) is hitting the road to Athens, Georgia to take on the Georgia Bulldogs (14-9, 7-5 SEC) on Tuesday night at 9:00 p.m.

This marks the second matchup of the season between these two SEC teams, this time on the Bulldog’s turf. When Georgia made the trip across the state line last month, Florida sent them back home with a loss of 77-63. The Bulldogs are the second of five opponents that the Gators face twice this season. Florida swept Ole Miss and will attempt to do the same vs. Georgia.

Florida notables:

– For the second game in a row, John Egbunu recorded a double double — the fifth of his career at Florida.
– Devin Robinson rejoined the starting lineup for the first time in 12 games, the last being against Florida State in December.
– Two Florida players registered double-digit figures in rebounds for the third time this season. (Robinson 12, Egbunu 11)
– An early 11-0 run pumped out by Egbunu and Devin Robinson helped the Gators build a 24-11 lead when Florida and Georgia met earlier this season. The Gators never allowed UGA to make it closer than a two-possession game after that.

Georgia overview:

The Bulldogs are coming into Tuesday’s game with a bit of confidence, winning three of their last four games. Georgia boasts a 5-1 home SEC mark and a 12-3 record for the season at home.

In initial SEC play the Dawgs started out with a poor 2-3 record, but have came made a comeback to go 5-2 over their last seven conference games. They have four players that are averaging double digits in points per game – Yante Maten (16.0), J.J. Frazier (15.4), Kenny Gaines (13.1) and Charles Mann (11.0).

Game predictions:

Even if Florida comes in playing the same game that they played against Georgia earlier this season, it does not guarantee them the win. The Dawgs have grown in confidence and have gained an offensive rhythm with four scorers that will put the Gators defense to the test.

Coming off of a rough game offensively against Alabama at home, Florida will have to start producing some points in order to keep up. One strong suit that the Gators have is their defense, with two players getting double-digit rebounds in their last game. If they can keep that up and complete plays on the other end of the court, this could make for a good basketball game.

What this game means:

For Georgia, winning this game would continue them on their path to redemption in conference play. Seeing as they already lost to Florida this season, this would be a mark to show that they are not the same team that they were a month ago.

As for Florida, winning this game would give them back some confidence that was lost after some tough blows from Kentucky and Alabama. A road win would be huge for them as three of their next four games are away.

Watch for yourself to see if the Florida Gators men’s basketball team will be able to pull of the sweep over the Georgia Bulldogs tomorrow night at 9 p.m. on ESPN. As always, be sure to follow along with us right here at GatorCountry.com for updates and comments during the game.

Growing up, Jenna took more of an interest in cheerleading then what was going on the football field and basketball court. It wasn't until she attended her first Gator football game that she finally took notice of football. It was love at first down. (She also enjoys lame jokes). From there, Jenna decided to immerse herself in all things sports - never missing a home football game for all four years of college. During her junior year, she stumbled into the amazing opportunity to marry her love of writing with her love of sports and somehow was able to land an internship with GatorCountry. When she is not covering games, Jenna likes to box, binge-watch Family Guy and American Dad on Netflix and keep up with her fantasy football teams. She loves Jesus, all things sugary and funny snapchat filters, but her main goal in life right now is to find a job after graduating with a degree in sport management.
