Orlando (Fla.) Boone’s Schuyler Rimmer has informed the Florida Gators basketball staff of his decision to withdraw his verbal commitment to the team.
Rimmer informed GatorCountry.com’s Drew Laing of the news via text on Monday, adding that he wanted to keep his reasons for the decision between himself, his family and the Florida basketball staff.
According to sources close to the situation, Rimmer had been asked to walk on to free up a spot for another scholarship player. Soon after is when Rimmer’s decision was made to withdraw his pledge.
The 6-foot-9, 220-pound forward was one of three prospects verbally committed to the Gators as part of the Class of 2013. The others are a pair consensus Top 7 prospects in Kasey Hill and Chris Walker. Both are planning to ink with the Gators during the early signing period next month.
Florida could add as many as two more prospects for the Class of 2013. One of the prospects around the top of UF’s wish list is Joel Embiid, a 7-foot, 230-pound center. Embiid is a native of Cameroon who attends Monteverde Academy in Florida.
