RECRUITING: Heyward – UF has lot to offer

Completely open in the process of recruiting, Cameron Heyward spent the weekend in Gainesville to get a feel for the Florida Gators. With defensive tackle at this point a key need for the Gators, Heyward claims to have a great visit and updates the rest of the recruiting process.

“It was a pretty good visit,” Heyward said. “David Nelson was my host and we got along really well.”

The four star defensive tackle said he was not able to make it in Friday night, but came as early as he could the next morning.

“I got in early Saturday,” Heyward said. “We got to tour everything, like the weight room, the Swamp and all the other facilities. The facilities were some of the best I’ve seen so far.”

“Then we got to go to the basketball game, which was a good atmosphere. I saw the academic presentation, too. Saturday was the busiest day.”

One of the more impressive aspects of Peachtree (Atlanta, GA) High defensive tackle’s visit was his time spent with the coaches. Heyward spoke strongly of the importantance of a strong coaching staff in his school of choice, and his time spent with the Florida staff did nothing to hurt their chances.

“I talked to Coach Meyer, Coach Mattison, Coach Gonzalez, and actually pretty much all the coaches,” Heyward said. “They were really cool with me.”

The abundance of talent in Gainesville this weekend showed the uncommitted visitors the future talent that will be lining up in the orange and blue. For the 6-6, 280 pound tackle, it was a great experience to establish relationships with some of these players.

“I spent a lot of time with Torrey Davis,” Heyward said. “Besides my host, Torrey and I probably got the closest. I also spent a lot of time with Ahmad Paige and Justin Trattou. They both seemed like they were having a good time.”

In the end, Heyward came away impressed with his time on the campus of the national champions.

“Overall, I had a very enjoyable visit,” Heyward said. “Florida has a lot to offer and they are definitely one of my top schools still on the board.”

With under a month until Signing Day, Cameron Heyward is beginning to wind down to a decision. He still claims to be looking at the same four schools.

“Besides Florida, I am also still considering Georgia, LSU, and Ohio State,” Heyward said.

“Right now those four are all even with me,” Heyward said. “I still have visits left to Georgia at some point and Ohio State next weekend.”

However the school lucky enough to bag Heyward will be forced to wait until near the end of the process.

“I will most likely announce my decision on signing day,” Heyward said.

Losing three of the four starting defensive linemen, the positive becomes an immediate recruiting need for the Gators. With the enticing depth chart, Florida looks to close strong at the position, and Cameron Heyward would be a welcomed addition to the class.
