Florida may offer SG Phil Booth

Earlier this month, Florida Gators assistant coach Rashon Burno traveled to Maryland to watch class of 2014 shooting guard Phil Booth (Mount St. Joseph’s/ Baltimore, Md.).

Although Booth doesn’t officially have an offer from the Gators, the 6-foot-2, 170-pound guard has garnered significant interest from Florida.

“Florida has been in contact with me,” Booth said. “They said once I get on the phone with [head coach Billy Donovan] he will offer me a scholarship.”

Booth, who has scholarship offers from schools like Indiana, Georgetown, Villanova and Maryland, said adding Florida to his list of offers would be a big deal for him.

“[A scholarship offer] would mean a lot. Florida is a big time program and coach Donovan, the SEC and Florida’s academics all stand out to me about the Gators,” he said.

Booth continues to impress in his junior season, leading Mount St. Joseph’s to a 13-2 record through the first two months of the season. He’s made notable improvements this season, averaging career highs with 19 points, seven rebounds and five assists per game.

He is currently unsure of when he will take a visit to Gainesville to see the campus.
