PG B.J. Taylor recaps Florida visit

Ever since attending the Florida Gators team camp this past summer, Orlando Boone point guard B.J. Taylor has been on the coaching staff’s radar.

The 6-foot-2, 180-pound junior took an unofficial visit to Florida over the weekend to watch the Gators take on Missouri in Florida’s first sellout basketball game of the season.

Taylor watched the Gators last season against Vanderbilt but said Saturday’s atmosphere was impressive.

“The game was a blowout, but it was a great atmosphere,” Taylor said. “The students were in a frenzy the whole game, and it was just loud.”

A big part of the Gators’ 83-52 victory was the play of their guards. Taylor, a point guard, noticed the chemistry between the guards and thought the Florida backcourt played well.

“Scottie (Wilbekin) is a great defender. Kenny (Boynton) and both Mike (Rosario) and Michael (Frazier II) are great shooters,” Taylor said. “Florida is an unselfish team and they play well together.

“I like the fact that the whole team executed their roles.”

Taylor doesn’t think his game resembles any of the current Florida guards, but rather he believes it’s closer to that of Erving Walker’s playing style.

“I’m always in attack mode like him, and I try to make plays for myself and my teammates,” Taylor said. “[I play] up tempo like Florida.”

After the game, Taylor had the opportunity to speak with the coaching staff. Although the Gators haven’t offered him a scholarship, he said the staff reiterated their strong interest in him.

“They are very impressed with me and are going to come see me again real soon,” Taylor said.

At this time, Taylor stressed all of the schools he was interested in are even and that he has no favorites. However, he plans on visiting Florida again in the summer after the season.
