Preview

The Gators came to life on Wednesday in a historic 106-71 rout of LSU. It was Florida’s highest scoring conference game in nearly 42 years and the most points scored in a road conference game in school history.

The win included a school-record 19 three-pointers, led by freshman Eric Hester’s 5-for-5 performance from beyond the arc. Hester’s five three-pointers were the most by a Florida freshman since 2002 and the most in a regular season SEC game since 1998. Devin Robinson also had a nice night offensively, leading the Gators with 24 points. He was 9-for-15 from the field and 5-for-8 from three.

The Sooners have taken a step backwards after losing three of their four leading scorers from last season’s Final Four team. Buddy Hield was the team’s leading scorer, averaging 25 points per game last season. Oklahoma comes into this game having lost its last two to Texas and Iowa State.

The Sooners are now led in scoring by Jordan Woodard (17.3) and Rashard Odomes (10.3). Woodard (.393, 33-for-84) and Christian James (.415, 27-for-65) are the top three-point threats on the team that averages .378 from beyond the arc. Kristian Doolittle leads Oklahoma with 6.3 rebounds per game. Khadeem Lattin has a team-high 40 blocked shots this season.

The Sooners are coached by former Florida head coach, Lon Kruger, who compiled a 104-80 record between 1991-96 and led Florida to its first Final Four appearance in 1994. The Gators and Sooners have only faced off one other time. Kruger led Florida to a 76-72 overtime win over Oklahoma in 1995.

Florida holds a 2-1 record in the SEC/Big 12 Challenge, with home wins over Kansas and West Virginia and a road loss to Kansas. The Gators are also 2-0 against Big 12 teams under Mike White.

Bailiegh Carlton
A lifelong sports fan, Bailiegh Carlton knew from a young age that she wanted to work in sports in some capacity. Before transferring to the University of Florida to study journalism, she played softball at Gulf Coast State College. She then interned for Gator Country for three years as she worked toward her degree. After graduation, Bailiegh decided to explore other opportunities in the world of sports, but all roads led her right back here. In her time away, she and her husband welcomed a beautiful baby girl into the world. When she isn't working, she can almost always be found snuggled up with sweet baby Ridley, Cody and her four fur babies.
