Preview

Florida hits the road again this weekend to take on Florida State in the Fresh From Florida Sunshine Showdown. The Seminoles enter the game on a five-game winning streak that includes victories over Illinois and Minnesota. Florida State’s only loss this season was to Temple. The Gators come in fresh off of a loss to No. 5 Duke, with both of their losses coming to teams that are currently in the top-10.

Florida State’s offense is averaging 90.3 points per game this season and has scored at least 98 points five different times this season, including three 100-plus point performances. Three Seminoles are averaging double-digits. Dwayne Bacon leads the team with 16.6 points per game. Jonathan Isaac has missed Florida State’s last three games, but averages 15.1 points per game, while PJ Savoy averages 12.8. All three are long-range threats, shooting better than 40 percent from beyond the arc. Savoy is 15-for-19 (51.6 percent) from three this season.

This will be the 68th all-time meeting between Florida and Florida State in basketball. The Gators lead the series 43-24. While Florida holds a major lead in the series, it has dropped the last two games of the rivalry matchup. Last season, KeVaughn Allen put up the fifth-most points in a single game by a Florida freshman in program history. Despite Allen’s 32 points, the Gators still fell 73-71 at home. Mike White is 0-1 against the Seminoles in his time at Florida, and 1-2 in his career.

The Gators look to end the losing streak against Florida State on Sunday and get back to winning in this final stretch of games away from home.

A lifelong sports fan, Bailiegh Carlton knew from a young age that she wanted to work in sports in some capacity. Before transferring to the University of Florida to study journalism, she played softball at Gulf Coast State College. She then interned for Gator Country for three years as she worked toward her degree. After graduation, Bailiegh decided to explore other opportunities in the world of sports, but all roads led her right back here. In her time away, she and her husband welcomed a beautiful baby girl into the world. When she isn't working, she can almost always be found snuggled up with sweet baby Ridley, Cody and her four fur babies.
