Devoe picks up an offer from the Florida Gators

Michael Devoe, a class of 2018 point guard prospect, is a guy whose name has been heating up as of late. The 6-foot-4, 175-lb. point guard from Oak Ridge High School in Orlando is approaching the summer with a great deal of momentum in his recruiting process.

The size and length of Devoe at the point guard position makes him a tough matchup for opposing guards. Devoe sees the court well and looks to make things easier on his teammates.

“I am a pass-first point guard, but I can score from all three levels as well,” Devoe said. “My strengths are getting my teammates involved, scoring the ball, and having a high basketball IQ.”

The ability to guard the ball at a high level is something that coaches want to have in their players. Devoe realizes that and is working on that aspect of his game in preparation for the next level.

“Something that I am working on is my on ball defense,” he said. “I feel confident in my off ball defense and my defensive awareness. I’m really working on my on ball defense now, so I will definitely be ready for college.”

Schools are really starting to take notice of the talent that Devoe has. Coaches from programs all over the country are intrigued by the 2018 point guard from Oak Ridge.

“Florida, Wake Forest, Miami, TCU, Georgia Tech, and UCF are the schools that contact me the most,” Devoe said. “I haven’t really made a decision on what schools are my top schools, but those are some schools that I like.”

The Florida Gators are the most recent team to offer Devoe. Coach White has made a great impression early on for Devoe.

“It’s truly a blessing,” he said on the offer from Florida. “I’m very glad Coach White came and saw me. He seems very interested in me and wants me to come to his school. Coach White is a great coach and he really knows how to use his guards and he plays off of them. He plays a lot of pick and roll, along with a fast break tempo, so I really like that because that’s how I like to play.”

Being an in-state talent, Devoe has watched the Gators for a long time and respect all that the program has accomplished.

“Florida is just a great program,” Devoe said. “It has been a special program for many years. They have a senior guard leaving next year, so I think that would be a good opportunity for me to step in there and contribute in that area.”
