GAINESVILLE, Fla. – After helping the University of Florida men’s basketball team to a 2-0 start in Southeastern Conference play, guard Nick Calathes was named SEC Freshman of the Week on Monday, the second time this year he’s earned the honor.

Calathes (Casselberry, Fla./Lake Howell) averaged 18.5 points, 7.0 assists, 3.5 rebounds and hit 53.8 percent from three-point range, as the Gators (15-2 overall, 2-0 SEC) picked up a road win at Alabama, then won against Auburn on Saturday at the O’Connell Center.

Calathes opened the week by scoring 21 points, dishing out nine assists and grabbing seven rebounds in the Gators’ win over Alabama. Seventeen of his 21 points came after the break, as the Gators rallied from a 10-point first half deficit against the Tide.

He had 16 points and five assists against Auburn and for the week hit 7-of-13 three-point attempts.

Calathes leads the Gators in scoring on the year at 15.2 points per game and leads the SEC in assists per game at 5.9 per contest.
