Gators down on the farm 9/10/12

The big news this week is Steven Rodriguez was promoted to the MLB for the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Several former Gators had big weeks this past week.

Let’s start with the now six Gators in the majors.

Darren O’ Day (UF’05), pitcher Baltimore Orioles – O’Day picked up his seventh win of the season last week going two innings of scoreless baseball for the second-place Orioles

Mark Ellis (UF’99), infielder, Los Angeles Dodgers- In five games last week, Ellis went 9 for 21 with 3 runs scored for the second place Dodgers.

David Ross (UF’98), catcher, Atlanta Braves – Ross appeared in two games last week going 2 for 6 with an RBI for the second place Braves.

Nick Maronde (UF’11), pitcher, Los Angeles Angels – In one game last week, Maronde pitched one inning of scoreless baseball for the Angels.

Matt Laporta (UF’07), first baseman, Cleveland Indians – Laporta went 1 for 5 last week for the Indians with a strikeout.

Steven Rodriguez (UF’12) pitcher, Los Angeles Dodgers – Rodriguez was promoted to the big leagues this week and appeared in just one game pitching 1/3 of an inning of scoreless baseball.

The Gators are also well represented in the minor leagues as, 19 former players are in the minors.

Those are:

Bryan Augenstein (UF’07), pitcher, Durham Bulls, AAA, Rays – Augenstein finished the season with a 2-1 record and a 3.59 ERA and three saves for the Bulls.

Cole Figueroa (UF’08), second baseman, Durham Bulls, AAA, Rays – The season is over for Figueroa and he finished the year with a .292 batting average and five home runs and 54 RBI’s.

Brian Jeroloman (UF’06), catcher, New Hampshire Fisher Cats, AA, Blue Jays – Jeroloman finished the year by playing 43 games this season and having a .183 batting average and 10 RBI’s.

Matt Den Dekker (UF’10), outfielder, Buffalo Bisons AAA, Mets – In 135 games this season, Den Dekker had 17 home runs a .274 batting average and drove 76 runs.

Kevin Chapman (UF’10), pitcher, Corpus Christi Hooks, AA, Royals – Chapman finished the year with a 6-3 record and two saves while having a 2.64 ERA this year.

Patrick Keating (UF’09), pitcher, Northwest Arkansas Naturals, AA, Royals – In 35 games this season, Keating finished with a 2-2 record and 9 saves and a 4.50 ERA this year.

Bryson Smith (UF’11), outfielder, Pensacola Blue Wahoos, AA, Indians – Smith finished the season with a .310 batting average and six home runs while driving in 69 runs this year.

Ben McMahan (UF’11), outfielder, Wisconsin Timber Rattlers, A, Brewers – In 109 games this season, McMahan had a .287 batting average while hitting 15 home runs and driving in 68 runs.

Josh Adams (UF’11), infielder, Greensboro Grasshoppers, A, Marlins – Adams finished the season with a .264 batting average and 14 home runs and drove in 85 runs this year.

Tommy Toledo (UF’11), pitcher, Brevard County Manatees, A, Brewers – A 9-2 record is what Toledo finished with this season and a 3.36 ERA.

Alex Panteliodis (UF’11), pitcher, Savannah Sand Gnats, A, Mets – Panteliodis finished this season with 1 5-8 record and a 3.64 ERA this season.

Anthony DeScalfani (UF’11) , pitcher, Lansing Lugnuts, A, Blue Jays – DeScalfani finished the year with a 11-3 record and 3.37 ERA while pitching 123 innings this season.

Nolan Fontana (UF’12) shortstop, Lexington Legends, A, Astros – In just 49 games this season, Fontana had a .225 batting average and two home runs and 25 RBI’s this summer.

Daniel Pigott (UF’12) outfielder, Billings Mustangs, Rookie ball, Reds – Pigott had a .308 batting average and 3 home runs and drove in 31 RBI’s while scoring 22 runs.

Mike Zunino (UF’12) catcher, Jackson Generals, AA, Mariners – Zunino and the Generals are in the Southern Division playoffs. On the year, he is hitting .360 with 13 home runs and 43 RBIs.

Preston Tucker (UF’12) outfielder, Tri-City Valley Cats, A, Astros – In 42 games this season, Tucker had a .321 batting average and 8 home runs while driving in 38 runs.

Greg Larson (UF’12) pitcher, Lowell Spinners, A, Redsox – Larson had a 1-2 record on the year and a 2.76 ERA and picked up two saves this season.

Brian Johnson (UF’12) pitcher, Lowell Spinners, A, Redsox – Johnson only appeared in four games before an injury cut his season short.

Hudson Randall (UF’12) pitcher, GCL Tigers, Tigers – In just seven games this season, Randall had a 0-1 record with a 3.00 ERA.
