Florida Gators softball recap of Lafayette series

GatorCountry.com brings you this week’s Florida Gators softball review as the Gators swept a weekend series. In this recap we will break down the past week’s games, plus name a player of the week from the past week.

The Gators took a rare weekend off from SEC play this weekend but the schedule didn’t get easy as Florida hosted and swept No. 5 Louisiana Lafayette.

Florida is now 41-3 on the year and the Gators are now 12-3 in the SEC, which is tied for the best record in the conference.

Results:

Florida defeated No. 5 Louisiana Lafayette 5-1- winning pitcher Delanie Gourley

Florida defeated No. 5 Louisiana Lafayette 14-1- winning pitcher Aleshia Ocasio

Florida defeated No. 5 Louisiana Lafayette 3-0 – winning pitcher Delanie Gourley

Offensive leaders:

Sophomore Kayli Kvistad continued to stay hot at the plate as she had two big home runs this past weekend against Lafayette. Kvistad had four hits and seven RBI’s while scoring three runs.

Senior Aubree Munro continues to push her hitting streak up after a slow start and this past weekend she had four RBI’s and five hits against Lafayette. Munro has a season-high six game hitting streak now.

Senior Kelsey Stewart was red hot on Saturday against Lafayette and finished the weekend with five hits from the lead-off spot. Stewart also had four runs scored and three RBI’s this past weekend.

Pitching:

Tim Walton and Florida Gators softball pitching coach Jennifer Rocha threw all three of the Gators pitchers again this past weekend. The three headed-monster of a rotation now all have over 100 strikeouts this season.

Sophomore Aleshia Ocasio picked up a win against Lafatottee over the weekend while pitching five innings. Ocasio gave up just one run while striking out two hitters and walking just one batter.

Freshman Kelly Barnhill didn’t fare as well as past weekend as she pitched just 2.2 innings this weekend while walking four hitters but not giving up a run. Barnhill did strike out three hitters while giving up three hits.

Junior Delanie Gourley picked up two wins while pitching 11 1/3 innings of one run ball.  Gourley is now 13-2 on the year and struck out 21 hitters during the two outings.

Player of the week:

Kayli Kvistad had two more home runs this past weekend and seven mores RBI’s while hitting in the three-hole. Kvistad is the first repeat player of the week and continues to pace the Gators at the plate.

Florida plays a midweek game this week against an instate opponent before jumping back into SEC conference play this weekend.

Friday vs. Mississippi State at 6:00 P.M

Saturday vs. Mississippi State at 1:00 P.M

Sunday vs. Mississippi State at 5:00 P.M
