Crawford named SEC pitcher of the week

Junior pitcher Jonathon Crawford was named the Southeastern Conference pitcher of the week on Monday for the first time.

Crawford pitched his best game of the season on Saturday as he pitched a complete game, two hitter shutout against Ole Miss in game two of the series.

The win was Crawford’s first of the season, as the junior struck out nine Rebels while going on to record his second career complete game victory of his career.

Saturday’s shutout was the first of the season recorded by the Gators, who followed that up on Sunday by shutting out Ole Miss yet again.

Crawford is the first Gator to be named pitcher of the week since 2011, when Hudson Randall picked up the award.

With the series victory over Ole Miss, Florida improved to 13-16 overall and 4-5 in the SEC, good enough for fourth place currently in the SEC Eastern division.

Softball pitcher Hannah Rodgers was also named SEC pitcher of the week for the second consecutive week after leading the Gators to wins over FSU and a sweep of Ole Miss.
