      <title>Softball Gators open in Tampa tourney</title>

      <description><![CDATA[The college softball season is mere days away. The Florida Gators will travel to Tampa to compete in the USF-Fairfield Inn and Suites Tampa North tournament this weekend. 
<br><br>
The first game on the team’s agenda is at 6:15 p.m. on Friday against Long Island. They’ll then play at 8:30 p.m. against Florida Gulf Coast and the rest of the weekend will feature games against Maine and Illinois State on Saturday, and then tournament-host South Florida on Sunday. 
<br><br>
For the seven freshmen on the No. 2/4 Gators’ roster, this will be their first experience playing in a collegiate tournament. Rookie pitcher Alyssa Bache is fired up about this tournament in particular because she’ll be playing close to home.]]></description>

      <description><![CDATA[Joanna Mather took care of the South Florida Bulls at the speed of light. Her singles and doubles matches added up to 82 minutes. In singles play she made light work of Danielle Mills, winning 6-1, 6-0. In doubles, she teamed up with Lauren Embree to down Fanny Fracassi and Lucie Rey, 8-0, in 28 minutes.

“Pretty sharp. They're as good as any team in the country clearly and to be able to play them at 2, it's going to take a mighty effort for somebody to beat them,” UF coach Thornqvist on the tandem of Mather and Embree.]]></description>

The Gators (3-0) are 49-1 all-time against USF (3-1). The last time these two teams faced-off was on last February in Gainesville. The Gators won 5-2. The only time Florida lost against USF was on on April Fools Day in 1986. The Gators fell to the Bulls 5-3 in Tampa.]]></description>

      <description><![CDATA[The Florida Gators are coming off of a sophomore campaign that featured the lacrosse team being ranked as high as No. 2 in the nation.

They were able to fight their way through the American Lacrosse Conference tournament to be crowned champions and earn a bid for the NCAA Tournament in only their second season of existence. Florida upset Stanford to make it to the quarterfinals where it eventually lost 13-9 against Duke.
<br><br>
Now comes Florida’s junior season, they will be looking for the same success as last season, but with even higher expectations.]]></description>

      <description><![CDATA[The No. 3 Florida gymnastics team (6-1, 2-1 SEC) dropped its first meet of the season Friday night in the Coleman Coliseum in front of a massive crowd of 12,457. No. 6 Alabama (6-0, 3-0 SEC), the defending national champs, earned nation’s second-highest total of the season with a 197.725 to defeat the Gators’ score of 196.90.
<br><br>
“It’s going to be a great learning experience for them,” said Florida coach Rhonda Faehn. “We walk away tonight with a really solid road score. We obviously have things we are going to work on when we get back home and that’s fine because we have nowhere to go but up.”
<br><br>
The Gators were on the uneven bars for their opening rotation, posting a 49.225. Sophomore Mackenzie Caquatto continues to make strides after an injury, winning the event for the second consecutive week. Caquatto posted a 9.90 to earn her eighth bar title of her career. Sophomore Alaina Johnson tied for second on the event with Crimson Tide’s Ashley Priess and Ashley Sledge at 9.875.]]></description>

      <description><![CDATA[The No. 3 Florida Gators gymnastics (6-0 overall, 2-0 in Southeastern Conference play) team heads to Tuscaloosa, Ala., for a dual meet against the defending NCAA champion and No. 6 Alabama (5-0, 2-0). The meet begins at 8:30 p.m. Friday in the Coleman Coliseum. The Gators last won at Alabama back in 1985 when the SEC title was on the line. They last won a dual meet in the Coleman Coliseum in 1979.
<br><br>
This will be the 33rd consecutive meeting between the teams where both programs are ranked in the top-10. The Crimson Tide leads the Gators 19-12-1, but since 2007, the two teams are even at 8-8-1 each. 
<br><br>
Last weekend, Florida earned first place in the quad meet, knocking off the No. 1 gymnastics team in the country for the first time in 23 years in the Stephen C. O’Connell Center in front of 6,198 ecastic fans. ]]></description>
