St. Petersburg (Fla.) Lakewood offensive lineman Isaiah Wynn enjoyed a stop in Gainesville on Tuesday afternoon.

“The visit went well, I enjoyed it,” Wynn said. “I got to tour the campus and see the facilities and talk to coach (Will) Muschamp and coach (Tim) Davis. The campus looked good as usual, as I have seen it several times now.”

Athlon Sports released their All-SEC list today and 10 Florida Gators made the cut for the annual pre-season honor. In total, Florida had two players selected on offense, six on defense and two more on special teams.

The 10 Gators that were named to the All-SEC teams were two more than a year ago and the four Gators named to the first team was one more than the previous season as well. The players that were honored with the distinction of being named to one of the four teams were Dominique Easley, Loucheiz Purifoy, Kyle Christy and Andre Debose on the first team, Marcus Roberson came in on the second team, Jon Halapio and Antonio Morrison were named to the third team and Jonotthan Harrison, Dante Fowler and Jaylen Watkins were named to the fourth team.

Starting with Athlon’s first team All-SEC team, Dominique Easley came in ahead of Kelcy Quarles from South Carolina, Bryan Jones of Arkansas and Donte Rumph of Kentucky. These are all players who are legitimate NFL prospects and putting Easley ahead of them even though he hasn’t played defensive tackle full-time since his sophomore season is a big decision. Easley is a natural defensive tackle and should have a big season if he can stay healthy.

Will Muschamp’s football camp is a great way for the Gator coaching staff to evaluate young talent and get ahead of the game.

On Saturday the Florida Gators offered 2016 Naples (Fla.) High receiver Tyler Byrd following his impressive camp performance.

“After camp was over they told me to go to coach (Will) Muschamp’s office,” Byrd said. “He said he wants me to come to Florida and he said you have the chance to now because here’s your offer to Florida. It’s great to get the offer because it’s a childhood dream and they were my favorite school growing up even though all of my family grew up Florida State fans. So this makes it double special to me because this was my first offer too.”

On Friday the Gators offered a scholarship to 2016 Crawfordville (Fla.) Wakulla quarterback Felipe Franks.

One of those prospects was Lewisville (Tx.) Hebron safety Jamal Adams who enjoyed his visit according to his dad.

“Overall the visit it turned out well,” George Adams said. “We had a great time and an opportunity to meet all of the coaches, not just the defensive backs coach or the head coach but to meet all of the coaches. Jamal had a chance to interact with some of the players and he really enjoyed it.”

Getting to know you: Chris Thompson

GatorCountry continues the offseason “Getting to Know You” series where we ask the members of the 2013 recruiting class questions in an effort to let the fans get to know each player a little better both on and off the field.

Today we spoke to Gainesville High School’s very own Chris Thompson.

Thompson was a two-sport star in high school, playing receiver for the football team while also running track in the spring. Thompson’s speed is what separates him from the other receivers in Florida’s class. It’s not just his top end speed but Thompson also has exceptional quickness, acceleration and agility.

Thompson is a little undersized at 5’11” 170-pounds and will need to put on weight in order to be able to block at the next level. Sometimes receivers whose main asset is their speed don’t want to bulk up for the fear of losing a step. If that is his mentality than Thompson will need to change it if he is going to make an impact on the football team.

Thompson can absolutely become a speedster who can stretch the field in the vertical passing game and has the potential to develop into a nice playmaker for the Gators.

Video Analysis: Trevon Young

The Florida Gators 2013 football signing class did not end on February 6, 2013 like most expected. On February 8, 2013 the Gators added Trevon Young, an offensive line/tight end prospect that was completely off the radar until his commitment. Young was also considering playing Division-II basketball at Eckerd College until the Saturday before National Signing Day when the Gators pulled Young onto campus and pulled him away from his first love – basketball.

Young, who did not play football until his junior year of high school, stands tall at 6-foot-5, 265 pounds and is expected to play more tight end than offensive tackle for the Gators, but could grow back into a tackle (his position at Braden River High School (Bradenton, FL). Young is the only member of the 2013 class that even projects at the tight end position – a position that the Gators have a big need for production.

Young flew mostly under the radar with offers from Florida Atlantic, Florida International, Iowa State, Tennessee State and Western Kentucky.
