Kentucky hadn’t lost at home in 48 games, and with a roster full of future NBA lottery picks and college stars, Florida was going to need a near-perfect game to knock off the nation’s top team.

Instead, the No. 8 Gators (19-5, 7-2 SEC) couldn’t buy a three-pointer against the No. 1 Wildcats (24-1, 10-0 SEC), and a slew of first-half turnovers brought an end to Florida’s seven-game winning streak with a 78-58 loss.

“We took some careless shots at the basket that got blocked, and then we had a couple turnovers which led to them getting out on the fast break,” coach Billy Donovan said on the Gator Radio Network.

National Signing Day 2012 is now in the rearview mirror, and while there are still a couple prospects around the country that haven't decided where they're going, the majority of the 2012 recruiting class has found its new home. Florida is obviously still waiting for a big piece of the puzzle, with wide receiver Stefon Diggs not announcing his decision until Feb. 10.

However, with most of the rest of the signees making things official on national signing day last week, Gator Country is here to recap some of the action and tell you where everyone ended up. We take a closer look at our composite recruiting rankings to identify where the Top 385 players in the country landed.

For the Florida baseball team, the earlier the guys can get the job done, the better.

Prior to the Feb. 17 start of Gators’ season against Cal State Fullerton, knocking runners in from third base has been a major focus in practices.

The first Junior Day was Jan. 28.

The Florida Gators are coming off of a sophomore campaign that featured the lacrosse team being ranked as high as No. 2 in the nation.

They were able to fight their way through the American Lacrosse Conference tournament to be crowned champions and earn a bid for the NCAA Tournament in only their second season of existence. Florida upset Stanford to make it to the quarterfinals where it eventually lost 13-9 against Duke.

Now comes Florida’s junior season, they will be looking for the same success as last season, but with even higher expectations.

Florida had a ton of success recruiting the state of North Carolina this past year and the Gators will look to continue that trend as they try to land Statesville, N.C., linebacker LaChaston Smith.

“(UF assistant) coach (DJ) Durkin told my coach a few weeks ago that I had a Florida (scholarship) offer,” Smith said. “I’m hoping to visit them for their Junior Day on the (Feb. 18), but I’m unsure at this time (if I will).”

Florida will face a Herculean challenge when the Gators travel to storied Rupp Arena to take on the No. 1 Kentucky Wildcats, but coach Billy Donovan and his team are doing their best to ignore the rankings and the hype surrounding the nation’s top team.

What Donovan wants his team to focus on instead are the matchups they’ll face. There isn’t a single one the Gators have a decided edge in.

The Wildcats boast three of the league’s best players in center Anthony Davis, power forward Terrence Jones and small forward Michael Kidd-Gilchrist.

“Rankings are going to change throughout the course of the year,” Donovan said. “What you try to get your guys prepared for are things that are realities in the game. Whether they’re ranked No. 1, No. 5 or No. 25, you’re still dealing with their personnel, and they’ve got phenomenal personnel.”
