Wilson nearing a decision after Florida Gators visit

Saturday night could’ve been renamed Marco Wilson night as the 6-0, 180-pound cornerback out of American Heritage High School visited the Florida Gators campus.

Wilson was the big name on campus and received the red carpet treatment from the coaching staff  and it impressed the South Florida cornerback.

“The visit was real good, enjoyed going up there and talking to the coaches,” Wilson said. “It made me feel good [the red carpet treatment he received] I enjoyed that. I try not to pay too much attention to that but it made me feel good.”

The cornerback admitted that he learned more about defensive backs coach Torrian Gray during the visit as the two got a lot of time together.

“Coach Gray was just showing me how he coaches the defensive backs and we watched film,” he said of Gray’s message. “We talked about some schemes and I enjoyed that. He was telling me about how he wants to coach me.”

Head coach Jim McElwain also made Wilson feel special and wanted during their meeting that included one huge message.

“Coach Mac was telling me about how much he wants me to come to Florida,” Wilson said. “He was talking to me about how everything was going and expressing how big of a priority I was to him.”

The Florida Gators don’t have much to show Wilson that he hasn’t seen before, but there was one thing that was new and it impressed Wilson.

“Everything really stood out,” he said of the visit. “I got to look at the Hawkins Center and that was real cool. That something that was different and nice.”

All week speculation ran as to when Wilson would make a decision on his commitment and it looks things are heading down the back stretch now.

“I’m going home and going to make a decision soon,” Wilson said. “I’m going to sit down with my dad and think about what I want to do. This is all of my visits and now it’s just about making my decision now.”

INSIDERS TAKE: The Gators laid out the red carpet treatment for Wilson on Saturday night that included the playing of his highlight reel for the staff. There’s no secret the Gators want him and right now I would say it’s between Florida and Miami.
