Gardena (Ca.) Junipero Serra linebacker Dwight Williams is out in Oregon this week competing in The Opening. His team has advanced to play for the championship of the 7 on 7 tournament Wednesday night.
“It feels amazing to be here,” Williams said. “This was our mission from the start. Everybody is a playmaker out here and all of the quarterbacks are good. It makes it harder for us to play defense because we have to react quicker.”
While in Oregon, the 6-foot-1, 212-pound Williams talked to one of Florida’s assistant coaches on the phone.
“I actually just talked to coach Brian White yesterday on the phone,” Williams said. “He sent me a picture of me doing the Gator Chomp on Facebook, after that I called him. He was talking to me about how it was going out here and how I was enjoying myself and stuff.”
Florida has been in touch with Williams a lot and are trying hard to get the California linebacker on campus in Gainesville.
“I’m still weighing all my options right now,” Williams said. “I need to go see Florida for myself and be sure about them. They are trying to get me down there this summer, but coach White said that if I can’t it’s OK. I’m taking an official visit to them for the Florida/Florida State game.”
