Wilkins believes in Mullen’s ability to get Florida Gators back

One of the biggest needs for the Florida Gators in the class of 2019 is linebackers as the Gators need depth at the position this year.

On Saturday, linebacker Tra Wilkins (6-2, 210, Stone Mountain, GA. Stephenson) was on campus and he watched the linebacker position during practice.

“I enjoyed it, it was nice,” Wilkins said. “I was watching practice and got to watch the linebackers. I was with Coach [Christian] Robinson and Coach [Charlton] Warren the most. We also got to tour the campus.”

Wilkins has been on campus several times under the past staff but he feels the new staff has things going in the right direction.

“I feel Coach [Dan] Mullen is going to do something new,” he said of his impressions of the new coaching staff. “They kept telling me they wanted me to be a part of the program. I’m really thinking about it.”

Linebackers coach Christian Robinson has been the main recruiter of Wilkins and he spoke with the linebacker about where the Gators want him to play if he chooses Florida.

“He was glad to see me and get me on campus,” Wilkins said of his talk with Coach Robinson. “He was talking to me about the defense and where I fit in at. He wants me at the Mike and the Mac linebacker which is like the Will linebacker.”

Head coach Dan Mullen explained to Wilkins on Saturday what he expects out of his team and what he wants to accomplish at Florida.

“He really was just telling me about his plan and expectations for the team,” he said of Mullen’s message to him. “He was telling me that he wanted me to come back down for more visits. He wants me to visit as many times as he can.”

After his visit to Florida, Wilkins spoke highly of the Gators but he didn’t want to name any favorites.

“I just named my top 10 schools,” Wilkins said of any schools standing out to him. “This visit opened my eyes to Florida more. I like Florida.”

The Gators will get another chance to impress Wilkins and that visit could come as early as next month.

“Maybe the spring game,” he said on when he may visit Florida again.

INSIDERS TAKE: Wilkins has a lot of visits planned over the next few months including getting back to Florida. Wilkins says he’s not in a rush to make a decision.
