Whittemore the newest 2019 Florida Gators recruiting commit

The Florida Gators recruiting class of 2019 got its sixth member on Sunday when a local prospect committed to Florida.

2019 defensive back Trent Whittemore (6-3, 190, Gainesville, FL. Buchholz) announced his commitment on Twitter just days after getting his Gators offer.

“I got the offer early in the week,” Whittemore said. “I didn’t want to be rash but after praying and thinking all this week, I’m confident that I want to be a Gator.”

Whittemore’s decision to stay home and play for his mom’s [Missy Aggertt] former school who was a former Gators volleyball player was one that meant a lot to him.

“I was really excited about the commitment and it means a lot to be committed,” he said on what it meant for him to commit to Florida. “Not just the football aspect but the opportunity to be a part of the Gator Nation as a whole. It’s honoring to be a part of a wonderful institution both academically and athletically especially one competing in the SEC.”

The 2019 safety didn’t commit to just anyone on Sunday, he committed to the head man himself.

“I actually called Coach [Jim] McElwain himself,” Whittemore said of which he committed to. “He said he was excited for me to be a Gator.”

After talking with McElwain on Sunday, Whittemore is now looking forward to talking to defensive backs coach Corey Bell.

“I haven’t talked to him yet because I was recruited by Coach [Greg] Nord because he recruits my area,” he said of Coach Bell. “As a 2019 player, it’s a evaluation period in the spring so not a lot of contact in person.”

When Nord offered Whittemore last week, the Gators assistant explained that the 2019 prospect can play many places in college for Florida.

“I would say they offered me as a receiver or cornerback,” Whittemore said. “They just said they wanted me to be a Gator and they like the way I play at multiple positions. We’ll see how things go but I wouldn’t say I prefer any position to another. Just wherever I can best help the team.”

Now that Whittemore has committed to Florida, the 2019 defensive back plans to get on campus and help build the class up for the Gators.

“I’m sure I’ll be there at some point for camp,” he said. “I’m solid to Florida and I won’t be shy about letting people know Gainesville is a great place.”
