Saturday’s night win for the Florida Gators was huge for everyone involved including the Florida Gators recruiting efforts in 2016 and beyond, as prospects are taking notice of Jim McElwain and the Gators now.
One visitor that was in attendance on Saturday night was Florida Gators commit Rick Wells (6-0, 187, Jacksonville, FL Raines) and he enjoyed every moment of being a Florida Gators recruiting visitor for the Gators upset win.
“I’m speechless, I thought it was going to be a close game but they came out and completed a big task tonight,” Wells said. “There are a lot of good players all over the field. The receivers and quarterbacks are the same page for Florida and making big plays in games like this.”
Wells, who has been to a lot of college football games, says that Saturday night’s environment was the best he has ever witnessed.
“The atmosphere out there was number one for me,” Wells said. “It’s going to be a blessing stepping out on the field with all of these fans out there. It’s going to feel good to do that next year.”
One thing that Wells has taken notice of this year is the offense and also how much McElwain plays young guys.
“The offense is looking really good out there,” he said. “They’re playing a lot of freshmen and that shows me that I have an opportunity to come and play. Not start but just get reps on the field and the chance to make plays for them.”
Despite being a commit, the Gators coaching staff is still making sure to show Wells love and continue to sell their message to him.
“The coaches are saying things are looking good,” Wells said. “I’m going to be coming in this January and learning the offense and they say they are excited to have me at Florida.”
Since Wells is early enrolling, the Jacksonville receiver has to take all of his officials before January and he’s planning several of them.
“I’m going to take my official visit to Florida for the Florida State game,” he said. “I’m also going to take an official visit to South Carolina, Virginia Tech and I haven’t picked the other schools yet.”
INSIDERS TAKE: Wells says he will visit other schools but it’s one of those things where I don’t believe that Wells will take all five of his allotted official visits. Wells loves Florida and I believe he sticks to the Gators.
