UF stands on top for Whittington: Florida Gators recruiting

The Florida Gators recruiting class of 2019 has started off really well good so far and there’s still a lot of time for the coaching staff to improve the class even more.

One of the targets the Gators are still after is 2019 receiver Jordan Whittington (6-1, 185, Cuero, TX. High) who has Florida very high on his list.

“Florida is my leader,” Whittington said. “The coaches, the campus, the offensive style and the amount of true freshman is why. I like the environment at Florida too. “

Not only is receivers coach Kerry Dixon the main recruiter for Whittington’s area but he’s also the position coach for the receiver and he has received a few messages from the coach.

“I talk to Coach Dixon mostly, the receiver coach,” he said of who he talks to from Florida. “He mostly says that he likes that I’m a playmaker. I haven’t really asked him exactly what he likes but I’m sure he likes that I’m an athlete like Antonio Callaway. We talk a lot.”

Dixon and Whittington have been communicating with each other a lot and that has led to a pretty good relationship so far.

“We have a good relationship,” Whittington said. “He keeps it 100 all the time. I relate to him well because of that and we’re building a good bond.”

A few months ago, Dixon had the chance to host Whittington on the Gators campus and it was a good visit for the receiver.

“The visit was good,” he said of his visit to Florida this past spring. “I loved the stadium and the campus and facilities are beautiful. My favorite part was walking out of the doors to the stadium.”

While in Gainesville on the visit, Whittington received good news from head coach Jim McElwain during a meeting between the two.

“I was talking to the head coach and he offered me then,” Whittington said. “Coach Mac said that he likes me and then he talked to me a little about my home town and school.”

Despite having the Gators as his leader, Whittington says that he’s not anywhere close to deciding on a commitment.

“Around this time next season,” he said when asked when he wants to decide. “Florida State, UCLA, LSU, Oregon, Stanford and Texas A&M are the others I’m interested in.”

INSIDERS TAKE: Whittington is a big play receiver who wants to return to Florida for another visit this summer.
