Former Florida Gators quarterback Treon Harris has decided to transfer away from the University of Florida.
Gator Country was able to confirm the report from Ryan Bartow that Harris, who was suspended throughout spring practice and only recently cleared to return to team activities.
Harris was a late addition to Will Muschamp’s final recruiting class in 2014. He led Booker T Washington to a state championship and undefeated record as a senior.
Harris completed his first two passes in Orange and Blue. He was 2-2 for 148 yards in mop-up duty against Eastern Michigan in 2014. Harris didn’t play again that season until he was called upon in the fourth quarter against Tennessee. Harris helped the Gators to a 10-9 win over the Volunteers and was expected to be named the starting quarterback before he was suspended for a sexual assault violation. Those charges were dropped and Harris started the final six games of the 2014 season as the Gators finished with a 4-2 record in that span.
Harris started the first game of the season in 2015. He was 14-19 for 215 yards and two touchdowns against New Mexico State. Harris played sparingly in the second game as Will Grier took over as Florida’s starting quarterback. Harris started the final eight games of the season, leading the Gators to a 4-4 record. Harris completed 174-of-346 (50.2%) of his passes for 18 touchdowns and 10 interceptions in his Florida career.
Harris has been granted his release by Florida, but will have to sit out a season due to NCAA transfer rules if he goes to another Division I program. Harris could play immediately if he chooses to go to a FCS school or a junior college. He will have two years of eligibility and still has a redshirt available to him under NCAA rules.
I appreciate what he did do and he had some decent games at Florida. We all know what he struggled with as well. I hope things work out for him. Go Gators.
