Treon Harris cited for driving without a license

University of Florida quarterback Treon Harris had another run in with University of Florida police. Harris was charged with operating a motor vehicle without a license, a second-degree misdemeanor, last Saturday night.

Harris was driving a friend’s car on stadium road with two teammates — Jalen Tabor and J.C. Jackson — when he was pulled over for speeding at 11:29 p.m. Officers reported that they detected the smell of marijuana coming from the car.

Major Brad Barber of the UFPD spoke with the Orlando Sentinel and said that while marijuana was found in the car, “They [officers] did not determine nor did anyone admit to the possession of the marijuana itself.”

Barber told the Sentinel that the players were referred to the Office of Student Conduct and Conflict Resolution.

Tabor — a freshman from the Washington D.C. area — was named to the SEC All-Freshman team following the season. Tabor was cited for possession of marijuana before the season on May 27. Tabor completed his requirements to have the prosecution deferred on December 5.

Gainesville attorney Huntley Johnson will represent Harris, who has a court date to handle the charge of operating a vehicle without a license. Gator Country was able to speak to a separate attorney who said that these cases are normally resolved when the accused obtains a license.

Harris and Tabor were both Freshman All-SEC this season and both are currently starters at quarterback and cornerback respectively. J.C. Jackson underwent shoulder surgery after an injury in the first game of the season and was redshirting.

Associate Athletics Director Steve McClain released the following statement regarding the situation.

“We are aware of the incident and are dealing with it internally and their bowl status hasn’t changed.”

He was able to play baseball in college but quickly realized there isn’t much of a market for short, slow outfielders that hit around the Mendoza line. Wanting to continue with sports in some capacity he studied journalism at the University of Central Florida. 1. Wow, cops are soft these days. Speeding in a car that does not belong to him, no valid drivers license, the smell of weed in the car… No Ticket?
Oh, wait, they didn’t confess that the weed was theirs or that they were smoking it – oh, okay then, they MUST be innocent. I guess I can’t sneer at the FSU and Tallahassee PD anymore when it comes to coddling the star athletes.
I’m thinking if I were speeding in a strange car with no drivers license and weed wafting out the window, I might have gotten more serious scrutiny.
What a bunch of f**k ups. I leave it to you to guess whether I’m referring to the PD or the players here.
For those that say, hey, these are just kids, I say I was a kid once and spent the weekend in jail for a lot less than what these three clowns skated by on.

  2. Well, our University Police Department is anything but slack. They have been over the top for years. Perhaps they’ve backed off a bit. The speeding and driving while having weed mysteriously lit in the car is the crazy part. Some of the decisions some of these kids make offer up irrefutable evidence that they are not necessarily Rhodes scholar candidates. The problem most of them don’t seem to realise, or don’t care about is, if you are on a major programs football team (even if that major program has been down for 4 years) you shouldn’t be doing the Bob Marley thing and speeding while your license is suspended. It’s like, bro? Really?
