Redshirt sophomore defensive back Quincy Lenton has had a rough go of it in his time with the Florida Gators.
He’s struggled with foot injuries essentially since he arrived on campus, and those struggles are not over just yet. Head coach Dan Mullen is not one to update on injuries, but he announced on Wednesday that Lenton would likely miss the entirety of the 2018 season due to a torn Achilles tendon.
“Quincy Lenton will be out,” Mullen said. “He has a torn Achilles. He’ll probably miss the season. He’s having surgery [Wednesday]. That’s the only injury that we expect anyone to miss any amount of time.”
This is not the first time Lenton’s season has ended before it even began. He missed his first season in Gainesville due to injury and only saw limited action on special teams a year ago.
Lenton is not the only Florida defensive back to struggle with the injury bug so far in fall camp. Chauncey Gardner-Johnson did not participate in Monday’s scrimmage and then practiced in a non-contact jersey, CJ McWilliams is currently on crutches and in a boot, Jeawon Taylor hasn’t been full go in much of camp and CJ Henderson missed practices last week.
The Gators even moved freshman running back Iverson Clement to safety in Wednesday’s practice as a replacement and a much-needed body.
Lenton showed good potential in the spring and was expected to provide some depth for the Gators at safety this season, but now he will have to sit it out once again.
