Six Florida Gators make All-SEC Teams

The Florida Gators finished the year SEC East Champions but had just one player named First Team All-SEC.

Cornerback Jalen Tabor was named First Team All-SEC for the second year in a row. It’s the third All-SEC distinction for the junior cornerback who was named Freshman All-SEC in 2014 as well.

Additionally five other Gators were named to the Second Team All-SEC list. Offensive lineman Martez Ivey, defensive lineman Caleb Brantley, linebacker Jarrad Davis, cornerback Quincy Wilson and punter Johnny Townsend were all selected.

Tabor finished the season tied for third in the SEC with four interceptions, including one returned for a 39-yard touchdown against Missouri. Tabor also finished the season with five passes broken up, 32 tackles, two for a loss and one sack.

Townsend was named to the Second-Team All-SEC list for the second season in a row, the third time Townsend was named to an All-SEC team (Freshmen All-SEC in 2013).

Townsend led the nation with a 48.05 yards-per-punt average on 60 punts. 28 of Townsend’s 60 punts traveled 50 yards or more and 25 punts left opponents inside their own 20.

Offensive lineman Martez Ivey was named SEC offensive lineman of the week twice this season, once as a left guard, once at left tackle.

Despite missing three games with an ankle injury, Davis finished second on the team with 60 tackles, pushing him over the 200-tackle mark for his career. Davis added four pass breakups and five quarterback hurries as well.

Wilson started all 12 games this season, one of only three Gators to do so. He was tenth on the team with 31 tackles and second on the team with three interceptions, one he returned 78-yards for a touchdown against Missouri. He also broke up six passes and had one quarterback hurry.

Defensive tackle Caleb Brantley led the Gators with 8.5 tackles for a loss, and finished second on the team with three quarterback hurries. Brantley was a disruptive force on Florida’s defensive line, which finished fifth in the SEC in rushing defense.

Nick de la Torre
A South Florida native, Nick developed a passion for all things sports at a very young age. His love for baseball was solidified when he saw Al Leiter’s no-hitter for the Marlins live in May of 1996. He was able to play baseball in college but quickly realized there isn’t much of a market for short, slow outfielders that hit around the Mendoza line. Wanting to continue with sports in some capacity he studied journalism at the University of Central Florida. Nick got his first start in the business as an intern for a website covering all things related to the NFL draft before spending two seasons covering the Florida football team at Bleacher Report. That job led him to GatorCountry. When he isn’t covering Gator sports, Nick enjoys hitting way too many shots on the golf course, attempting to keep up with his favorite t.v. shows and watching the Heat, Dolphins and Marlins.
