Friday Night Lights was filled with talent and, while some of them were just watching the action on the sidelines, the event still created a lot of excitement for the Florida Gators program.
Defensive end Jordan Woods (6-3, 245, Citra, FL North Marion) was one of those prospects that was just watching on the sidelines, but it was a successful visit for him he says.
“It was good, I got to chill with the coaches,” Woods said. “I got to see all of the prospects working out in the Swamp and I was able to watch the coaches coach them up.”
Florida Gators defensive line coach Chris Rumph has taken charge in Woods’ recruitment and he’s sharing a strong message with the defensive end.
“I like Coach Rumph, he’s an amazing coach,” he said. “He’s a family man and he’s always trying to make you better. He always tells me to come be a Gator and what am I waiting on? He gave me some powerful words and he gave me some Bible versus to read over to help me get through life.”
Woods has always liked the Gators, but with the coaching change happening the defensive end is trying to learn the staff all over again.
“Right now they’ve already given me their football message so it’s all about building that personal relationship,” Woods said. “They are still kind of new to me but I think they are good people and I just have to learn that personalities.”
There was some talk that Woods had narrowed down his leaders to Florida and the Miami Hurricanes but he says that isn’t the case at this time.
“Everybody in my top six is my leader and I’m trying to evaluate everyone so I can make my decision,” he said. “Florida, Miami, Tennessee, Louisville, West Virginia and South Carolina are my top six. I’m either going to commit before the season or with Freddie [Swain] this fall.”
INSIDERS TAKE: The University of Florida has the edge for Woods from all accounts that I’ve heard, but it’s just a matter of when Woods feels comfortable making his decision. The Gators are a team that Woods could help out on the defensive line in the future.
