Roberts high on Florida

On Tuesday, the Gators hosted prospect Carmel (In.) High receiver Austin Roberts.

The 6-foot-2, 210-pound Roberts is originally from Tampa, Florida so this wasn’t his first time to visit Florida but this time was different.

“It was great, I really enjoyed it,” Roberts said. “It was little better than I expected it to be. It was my first time on campus in over a year but overall it was a good experience.”

Roberts visiting Florida before he knew a lot about the Gators but this was his first time seeing the campus in full.

“The campus was awesome,” Roberts said. “I was able to see so much more this time on campus. I got to go see the communication building. I’m thinking about being a communications major so I was able to see the behind scenes stuff of their TV station that they have on campus. It really impressed me a lot and the lecture hall was nice too.”

After taking a campus tour, Roberts was able to sit down with new receivers coach Joker Phillips and tight end coach Derek Lewis.

“It was my first time meeting coach Phillips so it was more of an introduction conversation between us,” Roberts said. “Coach Lewis was telling me that they want me to be a receiver/slot tight end at Florida and that would like to use me like they did Jordan Reed if I choose Florida.”

When Roberts was finished meeting with Lewis and Phillips, the junior prospect went to meet with the head coach himself.

“I got to talk to coach (Will) Muschamp for about 10 minutes or so,” Roberts said. “It was my first time meeting him in person and he was telling me a lot of what coach Lewis was saying. He also said that he would like to see me in camp this summer so I could work out for him and show him my skills.”

After visiting Florida, Roberts said that Florida is high on his list and a return trip to Gainesville should happen.

“When I release my top 5 or 7, Florida will be in that group,” Roberts said. “I’ll be back in Florida this summer so I don’t see why I shouldn’t attend camp.”
