Recruiting Mailbag

Cgator22: Are any JUCO prospects popping up on the board at any positions?

AS: At this time not really. Florida is still keeping an eye on the JUCO ranks but will wait to see how they stack up with high school prospects.

Cgator22: Do you feel recruiting has held strong despite the struggles? It seems as if the only recruit that is truly wavering is Dalvin Cook and maybe Chris Lammons …

AS: Yes it has for the most part that in large part is due to the quality of kids that Florida recruits. Quincy Wilson and Will Grier have done a great job keeping the class together

Juggernautz: Which of our recruits are going to wait until NSD or later to announce?

AS: Lorenzo Carter, Damian Prince, Adoree’ Jackson, Nyles Morgan, Travis Rudolph, Clifton Garrett and Jalen Tabor.

Juggernautz: I”m not sure where it’s posted but can you break down the recruiting area of responsibility for our staff?

AS: Tim Davis recruits the offensive line and the Jacksonville area.  T-Rob recruits south Florida and the secondary. D.J. Durkin recruits Georgia/Carolina’s and the linebacker position. Joker Phillips recruits Georgia/Texas and receivers. Brian White recruits Orlando/California and the running back position. Brent Pease recruits quarterbacks. Derek Lewis recruits Louisiana/Tampa and tight ends. Brad Lawing recruits the Carolinas and defensive lineman. Jeff Choate recruits the panhandle and linebackers.

oI2ange: Do we have a backup to JC Jackson? Or does the staff feel good enough with the current committed CBs?

AS: Not really because the staff feels about the other corners in this class but I think Jackson stays in the class because of his relationship with Duke Dawson.

OI2ange: Any news on the top targets?- Tabor, Carter, etc?

AS: Jalen Tabor will visit for the banquet weekend that’s about it on him. Lorenzo Carter will visit Florida for the FSU game with his parents.

OI2ange: Do you think there will be a few surprise commits on NSD? (Guys we haven’t really heard of until that day?)

AS: Every year it happens but it usually happens in January closer to NSD and yes I think you will see it happen again.

MrB-Gator: Which recruits are EE’s?

AS: Nolan Kelleher, Will Grier, Taven Bryan, Duke Dawson and DeAndre Goolsby. Dalvin Cook is still trying to become one.

AG111: Is Jarren Reed being recruited? What about the buzz with Gerald Willis?

AS: Florida hasn’t really turned the heat up on Reed due to his academics. With Willis he’s interested in Florida but I still think he ends up at LSU.

Gatornica: What´s the latest on Cook? At this time, do you think he sticks?

AS: Dalvin Cook will be at Florida for the FSU game and that visit will be huge for Florida. Right now I think it’s still 50/50 or close to that.

Gatornica: In order of importance and MUST GET, choose 2 out of the following 3: Grier, E. Lane, and Cook?

AS: Will Grier and Dalvin Cook are more important that anyone but followed closely by Ermon Lane. Grier is huge because of the lack of quarterback play after Jeff Driskel and Cook is just an electric playmaker that Florida is lacking.

LaGatorDoc: If we get Sharpe, do we recruit another OT? I know Sims is on the board at OG, but another OT would be awesome for depth.

AS: I think Florida would still like one more lineman to go with Sharpe and Sims if they land both of them. Florida could potentially look for one JUCO lineman and don’t forget Florida is still trying to land a visit from Damian Prince.

Lurkingator1: Is Bama back in it for Sims? They just had a big Tackle decommit.

AS: Jordan Sims is a guard and Alabama is full at the guard position so it’s very unlikely Alabama pursues Sims.

Gators8: After the rumors of cook and lane possibly flipping to FSU, it seems as if they both ( especially Lane) have been being vocal about still being solid to UF. Is this all part of the game or did T-Rob possibly have a nice little chat with our south Florida boys to patch things up?

AS: Ermon Lane has never really been interested in FSU so not sure where those rumors came from. T-Rob is still working those guys very hard though.

Gators8: Latest on Adoree Jackson?

AS: Nothing really Florida is still trying to get Jackson back on campus for either the FSU game or while he’s in the state for the Under Armour game.

Chiefnsbfd: With the need for O-linemen why did we stop pursuing Benjamin Knox and drop his offer? is he someone Florida stays in contact with?

AS: Knox hasn’t had a very good year at all and he’s very underweight. Knox is also a huge project that Florida really isn’t interested in anymore.

74gator: MLB is a position of need where a freshman with size could start next year. Who are the possibilities?

AS: Nyles Morgan, Clifton Garrett, Raekwon McMillan, Tre Williams and Dwight Williams are all prospects Florida keeps in close contact with. Right now I don’t see Florida landing any of those guys though.
