Powell flips to Florida

Florida is on a hot streak in recruiting and it’s during the dead period when the coaches can’t even meet with players which is even more impressive.

The Gators have landed their third commitment in two days  as running back Brandon Powell (5-9, 167, Deerfield Beach, FL High) flipped from Miami to Florida.

“Florida has just come on to him lately,” Allen Jackson (Powell’s high school coach). “His father, myself and Brandon all sat down and have been talking about Florida a lot today.”

For Florida this is the 21st commitment for the Class of 2014 and is the only running back commit in the class after Dalvin Cook departed the class.

Powell fits the new spread style offense that Kurt Roper ran at Duke plus Powell adds speed and another playmaker to the Gators offense.

The once Miami commit was scheduled to early enroll at Miami this week but will now early enroll at Florida.

Powell becomes the ninth member of the Class of 2014 to early enroll at the University of Florida.
