The Florida Gators had several top prospects on campus on Saturday to watch the team go through the second spring practice and visit with the coaching staff.
Receiver Mycah Pittman (6-0, 195, Calabasas, CA. High) was one of those guys on campus and enjoyed his visit with Dan Mullen and the Gators after his long trip from the west coast.
“It was good, it was fun,” Pittman said of his visit to Florida on Saturday. “I went with my mom and my best friend, it was fun, and they loved it. I enjoyed my time there, I enjoyed my time with Coach Mullen.”
Pittman had a full day on Saturday that included a campus tour and ended with him getting the chance to watch practice.
“I got to go to the locker room and do the photo shoot,” he said on what all he got to do on Saturday. “We checked the whole Swamp out, then went to a real swamp and saw some gators swimming. It was fun, it was cool.”
The California receiver has been talking about visiting Florida for over a year now and he said the visit was more than he expected.
“Yeah it did,” Pittman said on if the visit lived up to expectations. “Coach Mullen was awesome, he’s a cool guy. I appreciate him taking his time with me today, he kept telling me he wanted out there on the team.”
Receivers coach Billy Gonzales spent a lot of time with Pittman on Saturday and he explained why the Gators were a good fit for the receiver.
“Coach Gonzales was telling me that I fit in really well,” he said on Gonzales’ message to him. “He said he needs players and that I can come in and compete right away. He said he would love to see me playing for the team. He thinks I can play everywhere on the offense.”
Pittman got to see what Gonzales was telling him on the practice field and in the film room and the receiver feels the fit at Florida now.
“I was watching them do film and practice and I feel like I would fit in well with them,” Pittman said on if he feels as if he’s a fit with Gonzalez. “He [Gonzales] seems like he loves what he’s doing and I definitely listened to what he had to say and plan on using that in the future. I think he’s awesome for spending time with me.”
Head coach Dan Mullen also spent a lot of time with Pittman on Saturday and he explained what the Gators like about the receiver.
“Coach Mullen was just really talking to me about how he loved my ball skills,” he said on Mullen’s message to him. “He said he wants to see me come there and compete and play right away for them. He said all the things that I wanted to hear and he seemed like a really down to earth coach. He was awesome.”
Pittman also got the chance to speak with a former Gator great who had nothing but positive things to say about Florida and Mullen.
“I actually talked to Percy Harvin, I was basically talking to him the whole practice,” Pittman said of Harvin. “It was cool, it was awesome to talk to him and see his perspective. He loves Coach Mullen and his family. It’s awesome to see Coach Mullen back at Florida.”
After the visit, Pittman now says that he plans to return to Gainesville for another visit.
“The next time I come back out it will be for an official,” he said of returning to Florida. “I’m only going to visit each school one time and then if I truly believe I can see myself there than I’m going to take an official visit there. I’m going to be taking all five of my five official visits.”
The Gators did enough on this visit to keep themselves squarely in the conversation for Pittman’s signature and that has to do with Mullen and his vision for the program.
“I’m going to consider Florida because it’s my home,” Pittman said. “I’m going to consider them for a very long time and I think they’re awesome. I felt good, I feel confident in their program and in Coach Mullen. I’m just looking to build that relationship with them.”
INSIDERS TAKE: Pittman really liked the visit to Florida this weekend and he’s very impressed by Mullen and his coaching staff. The receiver is high on Florida and planning to return for an official visit.
