Payton commits and makes Muschamp proud

The Florida Gators are on roll lately in recruiting and on Monday the Gators landed their third commitment in the last four days when receiver Tristan Payton (6-1, 180, Jacksonville, FL First Coast) committed to Florida.

“I just committed to Coach (Will) Muschamp,” Payton said. “He was very excited when I told him the news this afternoon. He was very happy and said that he was proud that I was a Florida Gator and that I made the right decision for myself and for my family and that he looks forward to coaching me.”

Payton visited Florida this past Saturday for junior and that’s where he learned he had a Gators offer after meeting with Will Muschamp and offensive coordinator Kurt Roper.

“To come from nothing from Jackson and to be here now I have to thank God for that. I went inside the office and coach Muschamp talked to me about my talent and he said he wanted to offer me a scholarship,” Payton said.

At first Payton said he was going to go home and think about his options and make a final decision in May but on Monday he felt it was time to make a decision.

“I knew it was the right choice for me,” Payton said. “ I know it’s a great school and I know that I will fit in at Florida and that they will take care of me as a player and a person there.”

Payton is the fourth Gators commit of the Class of 2015 and joins Deondre Farrier as receivers in the Class of 2015 that are committed.

With Payton and Farrier in the class already the Gators still would like to take two more receivers in 2015 after only taking two receivers in the Class of 2014.
