Parrish excited about his Florida Gators offer and Mullen’s history

Head coach Dan Mullen and quarterbacks coach Brian Johnson haven’t been shy about offering quarterbacks for the class of 2019 and they offered another prospect last week.

This time it was a prospect that Mullen is very familiar with as the Gators offered quarterback Peter Parrish (6-1, 198, Phenix City, AL. Central) last Thursday.

Coach Sal [Sunseri] offered me,” Parrish said on which coach from Florida offered him on Thursday. “He said that the coaching staff evaluated my film and wanted to offer me a scholarship.”

Parrish is no stranger to Florida and the Gators as he was once a resident in the sunshine state.

“Florida has always interested me because I’m a Florida guy,” he said on the offer. “I was born and raised in Miami. But when you place Coach Dan Mullen in the mix, it takes my interest to another level.”

The quarterback has known Mullen since the head coach’s days at Mississippi State and they’ve kept in touch since the head coach moved to Gainesville.

“Well he knew me from Mississippi State so it was more like staying in contact with me,” Parrish said of his recent talks with Dan Mullen. “He was sending pictures of the school and keeping me posted on upcoming school renovations and of course sending things like the Gator logo. Just keeping a line of communication open.”

The relationship goes a little deeper as Mullen was the first one to realize the talent of Parrish and that will help to get the quarterback on campus in Gainesville.

“I went to camp at Mississippi State last summer and Coach Mullen was the first to offer me as a sophomore when he was there,” he said of his relationship with Mullen. “But I will make it down to Florida again in order to see practice, talk to the other coaches, players and stuff.”

Parrish has done his homework on Mullen and his history with quarterbacks and he’s impressed by Mullen’s work.

“Of course, he had Tim Tebow at Florida and Dak Prescott at Mississippi State,” Parrish said when asked about what he knows about Mullen. “Coach Mullen is known for taking quarterbacks over the top in their development. He knows what he’s doing and you couldn’t ask for more when it comes to a championship winning head/quarterback coach.”

After the Gators offered, Florida rose quickly on Parrish’s mind but he wants to make some visits before he narrows down his choices.

“Florida is definitely standing out but I’m trying to check out as many offers as possible,” he said. “I want to visit Florida and once I get on campus and talk to the coaches and players, I will have a better idea.”

INSIDERS TAKE: Parrish said he wants to visit Florida in April but his month is pretty busy with several camps but he plans to visit when he gets in an opening in his schedule.
