Ohio State receiver Trevon Grimes transfers to Florida

Former St. Thomas Aquinas High School standout and Ohio State Buckeye receiver Trevon Grimes is transferring to Florida after just one season with the Buckeyes. The news was first reported by David Furones of the Sun Sentinel.

Grimes took an official leave of absence from the Ohio State football team in October to deal with a health issue in his family. Grimes has been at home in South Florida since leaving the team at that time.

Grimes was one of the top-ranked receivers in he 2017 recruiting cycle. An Under Armour All-American, he was named First Team All-Broward County as a senior, leading St. Thomas in receptions (27) and yards (496) before an injury cut his senior year short. He chose Ohio State over a number of schools, including Florida where his quarterback and teammate Jake Allen tried to recruit him to. Grimes will rejoin Allen when Grimes reports to the University of Florida for the spring semester.

A South Florida native, Nick developed a passion for all things sports at a very young age. His love for baseball was solidified when he saw Al Leiter’s no-hitter for the Marlins live in May of 1996. He was able to play baseball in college but quickly realized there isn’t much of a market for short, slow outfielders that hit around the Mendoza line. Wanting to continue with sports in some capacity he studied journalism at the University of Central Florida. Nick got his first start in the business as an intern for a website covering all things related to the NFL draft before spending two seasons covering the Florida football team at Bleacher Report. That job led him to GatorCountry. When he isn’t covering Gator sports, Nick enjoys hitting way too many shots on the golf course, attempting to keep up with his favorite t.v. shows and watching the Heat, Dolphins and Marlins.
