Ohio State commit has high interest in the Florida Gators

The Florida Gators call themselves DBU, for defensive back university, and the Gators are trying to lock down a top 2017 defensive back class to continue that legacy.

One of those top cornerbacks is Ohio State commit Shaun Wade (6-2, 179, Jacksonville, FL Trinity Christian) and he visited the Gators a few weeks ago.

“I had a great visit to Florida,” Wade said of his visit to Florida a few weeks ago. “It was a good visit overall and I got the chance to meet Coach Torrian [Gray] the defensive backs coach during the visit to Florida.”

Wade, who has offers from just about every big time college, actually received an offer from Gray when he was at his last job.

“Me and Coach Gray already knew each other from when he was recruiting me to Virginia Tech,” he said of Gray. “He’s a great coach and we are going to continue to build our relationship together now that he’s at Florida.”

This was the first time for Wade to actually meet Gray and the new defensive backs coach had a message for the cornerback.

“He said that I’m a big corner that fits well into the program at Florida,” Wade said of Gray’s message to him. “He also said that I will be playing right a way at Florida if I come in and work hard.”

Florida Gators head coach Jim McElwain wasn’t on campus when Wade visited, but the Gators head man made sure to speak with the Ohio State commit.

“Coach McElwain wasn’t there when I visited but I got to talk to him,” he said. “He said that he wants to meet my parents and build a relationship between me and my family with him.”

Wade says that nothing has changed in his commitment to the Buckeyes but the Gators have his attention.

“I’m still solid to Ohio State,” Wade said. “I have high interest in Florida though and I do plan to visit Florida again with my parents.”

INSIDERS TAKE: Running backs coach Tim Skipper and Torrian Gray are doing a good job of recruiting Wade. The Gators are team to watch in Wade’s recruitment over the next few months.
