No. 14 Florida knocks off No. 5 Oregon

The Florida Gators softball team improved its record to 2-0 on the young season after edging the Oregon Ducks 1-0 in the Gators’ second game of the Kajikawa Classic.

Unlike the Gators’ first game against Creighton, the Ducks gave Florida a much bigger fight. Both teams combined for only eight hits with Florida scoring the only run of the game.

Florida junior pitcher Hannah Rodgers pitched a complete game gem for the Gators, allowing zero runs on eight hits, while recording eight strikeouts.

Although the Ducks weren’t able to get a run across the plate, the Gators were finally able to break the 0-0 tie in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Senior utility player Ensley Gammel pinch hit for first baseman Taylor Schwarz and was able to drive in the game’s only run with a sacrifice fly.

It was the only real chance the Gators had to score during the game until the bottom of the sixth when Florida had two runners on with only one out. However, they were unable to capitalize.

Florida will take its 2-0 record into the second day of games in the Kajikawa Classic tomorrow when the Gators take on Cal State Northridge at 2 p.m. EST.
