Moon sees a bright future for the Florida Gators

The Alabama/Mississippi all-star classic was full of SEC prospects on the field during Saturday’s game and that included four Florida Gators commits as well.

One of those four commits was linebacker Jeremiah Moon (6-4, 210, Hoover, AL High) who played well during the game but didn’t get the win he was hoping for.

“It meant a lot to play in this game, I was able to see how I matched up against the big boys this week,” Moon said after the Alabama/Mississippi all-star game. “I just had fun this week even though we didn’t end the game the way we wanted too.”

Moon had two forced fumbles during the game and he played all over the field and that’s something he expects to do in college as well.

“I think I will move around a lot in college, I played some defensive end and some linebacker during the game,” he said. “I wasn’t really comfortable at defensive end but after today I felt a lot better coming off of the edge. Florida hasn’t really mentioned anything except linebacker to me though.”

Florida Gators defensive coordinator Geoff Collins is the lead recruiter for Moon and he has shared how the Gators plan to use Moon in Gainesville.

“Coach Collins just tells me that he sees the potential in me because of my length,” Moon said. “He sees me adding weight and being a good player at linebacker for them. We talk a lot about things so I have a good feeling.”

Moon was able to watch the Florida Gators defense a lot this year and he was able to see what it would be like to play for Collins at Florida.

“The defense was unstoppable this year for Florida,” he said. “Coach Collins did a great job with those guys this year and there is a bright future for us at Florida on the defensive side of things.”

Despite being committed to Florida since this summer, one other SEC school is recruiting Moon hard and he will visit them next month.

“I’m solid to Florida but I’m going to take an official visit to Mississippi State in January,” Moon said. “I’m going to be taking an official to Mississippi State sometime in January but I’m going to take my official visit to Florida and the end of the month as my last official visit. I think me, Lamical [Perine] and Jeawon [Taylor] are going to go together.”

There were several big time targets on the field on Saturday and while a lot of commits recruit others, Moon let his teammates do the talking for him.

“I’m the quiet guy of the commits,” he said on if he was recruiting anyone. “I don’t do much recruiting but I know that Lamical and Jeawon were doing a lot of recruiting this week on Mack Wilson and some other guys.”

INSIDERS TAKE: Moon played extremely well on Saturday and showed his athleticism to make plays in space as well rush the passer off the edge. Moon has good quickness off the ball and his long arms cause problems for quarterbacks trying to throw over him. Moon should very fit very well at Florida as a linebacker once he puts on a few pounds but he has the body to do that.
