McElwain updates Florida Gators injury list

The Florida Gators injury list continues to grow as the Gators get set to play Alabama in the SEC Championship this Saturday.

Jordan Sherit (knee) will be out for the game and will need surgery, Jim McElwain said on Monday. Sherit joins seven other starters on the list of injured players that won’t be available this weekend.

Starters out
Defensive lineman Jordan Sherit (knee)
Defensive lineman Bryan Cox (ankle)
Safety Marcus Maye (arm)
Safety Nick Washington (high ankle sprain)
Linebacker Alex Anzalone (arm)
Linebacker Jarrad Davis (ankle)
Center Cam Dillard (knee)

Freshman safety Jeawon Taylor will also miss the game after injuring his shoulder on special teams. Starting left guard Martez Ivey left the field following Florida’s loss on crutches.

“I’ve got to say how proud I am of Martez Ivey to give an effort last week,” McElwain said. “He will be limited moving forward.

Duke Dawson (ankle) and Ahmad Fulwood will be evaluated this week.

“Duke Dawson won’t practice at least for a couple days. Hope to get him out there Wednesday. Jury’s out on that one,” said McElwain. “Ahmad Fulwood went out in the that game. We’re hoping to know more on Wednesday as well.”

Nick de la Torre
A South Florida native, Nick developed a passion for all things sports at a very young age. His love for baseball was solidified when he saw Al Leiter’s no-hitter for the Marlins live in May of 1996. He was able to play baseball in college but quickly realized there isn’t much of a market for short, slow outfielders that hit around the Mendoza line. Wanting to continue with sports in some capacity he studied journalism at the University of Central Florida. Nick got his first start in the business as an intern for a website covering all things related to the NFL draft before spending two seasons covering the Florida football team at Bleacher Report. That job led him to GatorCountry. When he isn’t covering Gator sports, Nick enjoys hitting way too many shots on the golf course, attempting to keep up with his favorite t.v. shows and watching the Heat, Dolphins and Marlins.
