The Florida Gators landed its 13th commitment for the class of 2017 on Monday night when cornerback Marco Wilson (6-0, 180, Fort Lauderdale, FL. American Heritage) pledged to the Gators.
“The best choice for me is to commit to the University of Florida,” Wilson said on his dad’s radio show on Monday night. “I just love everything about the recruiting staff there and there academics are on point there.
Wilson visited the Gators two weekends ago and they laid out the red carpet for him in hopes of getting this commitment.
Florida did that to land one of the most talented corners in the country and that was evident last month at the Opening when Wilson laid down a 4.42 forty yard dash.
Wilson is the younger brother of current Gators cornerback Quincy Wilson and also highlighted that the Gators recruiting him for his play and not his brothers.
“They’ve done a really good job of recruiting me and not recruiting me just because of who my brother is,” he said. “They love who I am and they want to coach me and make me the best player I can be. They have done a good job of that and I like that.”
For awhile it looked like Wilson was going to head to his father’s alma mater, Miami, or possibly even out west, but the Gators really turned up the heat on the corner.
“Florida turned it up a lot on me lately,” Wilson said of the change in approach from Florida. “I’ve always liked them but in the past couple of months they have really turned it up on me a lot.”
With Wilson’s commitment the Gators now have two defensive backs committed with the other being Elijah Blades. The Gators this year are trying to sign a big defensive back class to help fill the depth need that has been lost the last few years.
