Mack and family impressed by Florida’s Skype chat

The world of technology has come a long way in the past few years and on Wednesday, Will Muschamp and defensive line coach Brad Lawing took advantage of the use of Skype.

Both Florida Gator coaches were able to have a face-to-face conversation with Texas A&M defensive tackle commit Daylon Mack (6-0, 322, Gladewater, TX. High) without having to use a visit to his school in Texas.

“It went great, it was just me and my mom talking to Coach Muschamp and Coach Lawing,” Mack said. “My mom really liked what both of them had to say and she was really impressed with the academics that Coach Muschamp was talking about. I was impressed by the football talk and the academics really.”

Skype also allowed Will Muschamp the opportunity to finally speak face-to-face with Mack’s mother and she left the conversation impressed according to Mack.

“It was my mom’s first time actually talking to them but she liked it,” Mack said. “She’s excited to get down there too and Coach Lawing said that she can hang out with his wife while we do our thing with football.”

While this was the first time that Mack’s mother was able to talk to Muschamp, the Gators head coach has done a great job of keeping in constant contact with the defensive tackle he says.

“I usually talk to Coach Muschamp two or three times a week,” said Mack. “Usually one time on the phone and twice through messages. He usually talks to me about how I’ll fit in there and about the opportunity for early playing time. I really like what he has to say.”

During the conversations Muschamp is always pointing out things to Mack and he’s also told him how he sees him fitting into the defense.

“He sees me fitting in at the 3 technique,” Mack said. “I was watching the game on Saturday and focusing on the defensive tackles a lot. It was a complete domination in that game. I loved it.”

Next up, Mack will be a trip to see the team he’s committed to and after that the Florida Gators will get their chance to flip the star tackle.

“I’m going to Texas A&M this weekend for an unofficial visit,” Mack said. “My official visit to Florida is for the LSU game on October 11th.”

When Mack gets to Gainesville he will finally get to meet the coaching staff but two other prospects will get to meet the guy that they have been recruiting hard as of late.

“I’ve been talking to George [Brown] and Tyler Jordan a lot,” Mack said. “They are just telling me to come down there and that I’m going to love it down there. I really can’t wait to get down there.”

INSIDER TAKE: I think it’s very important to watch how Mack’s visit goes on October 11th but I truly believe that Mack has a lot of interest in Florida and unlike some cases I think Florida has a legitimate shot at flipping the star defensive tackle.  One thing is for sure and that is that Mack is a great player and an even better person off the field.
