Lawing and Muschamp begging for a visit

One of the most important positions of need this year in recruiting is the defensive line and two weeks ago the Gators visited one of their top targets in South Carolina.

That prospect was defensive end Albert Huggins (6-2, 279, Orangeburg, SC Wilkinson) who made news public on Twitter the other night by tweeting out a nice photo that Florida sent him in the mail.

“Coach [Brad] Lawing came by earlier this spring but he wasn’t really able to talk to me,” Huggins said. “But I talk to Florida pretty often over the phone and on Twitter and usually its Coach Lawing but I’ve talked to Coach [Will] Muschamp a few times also. I actually got some cool mail from them the other day and I called Coach Lawing to tell him about it.”

One thing that Lawing and Muschamp are trying to do is get Huggins on campus so the Gators can show him what Florida has to offer.

“Coach Lawing is just trying to get me down to Florida for a visit so I can meet everyone,” Huggins said. “I’m going to try to get down there this summer and see everything for myself. I want to see how the coaches act and see if they really care about the players and how they treat everyone.”

The message from Muschamp and Lawing has stayed the same throughout the process and that’s that Huggins is wanted man in Gainesville and how well that he would fit into the Gators defense.

“Coach Muschamp is always talking to me about the school and how well he thinks that I fit in with what they are trying to do down there,” Huggins said. “Coach Lawing says he’s going to make me a Gator and that he wants me on the defensive line so he can coach me. Both of the coaches have said that I could play defensive tackle or defensive end in their defense, depending on how my body adjusts to college.”

Right now Huggins has only visited Clemson and South Carolina but he says that four schools are recruiting him the hardest heading into his busy summer.

“I would say South Carolina, UNC, Clemson and Florida are recruiting me the hardest at this point,” Huggins said. “I can’t say anyone is leading right now because I haven’t really visited many schools yet. This summer I’m going to buckle down and get some visits in before I make a decision. I have to make a decision before December because I’m enrolling early.”

Inside Scoop: Huggins is one of the Gators top targets on the defensive line but right now the Gators biggest chore is getting Huggins on campus. If Florida does get him on campus the Gators will have a chance here but Clemson has done a good job recruiting Huggins early on.
